Cherie Takemoto, MPA
Project Manager

Cherie Takemoto is Project Director of the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) Technical Support Contract. She joined New Editions in 2012. Previously, she directed a nonprofit with a budget of over $1.5 million a year, primarily from disability-related grants from Office of Special Education Programs and the Rehabilitation Services Administration at the U.S. Department of Education and from Health and Human Services. This work involved strategic planning, program management, technical report writing, curriculum development, evaluation, and accountability management. She also has worked with interagency and interdisciplinary groups, serving on several state and national advisory committees including the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education, the Virginia Interagency Coordinating Council for Early Intervention for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities (chair), and the Virginia State Rehabilitation Council (chair). Ms. Takemoto’s expertise includes disability, special education, school improvement, cultural competence, literacy, and partnership development. She serves on the Council for Exceptional Children Exceptional Children Review Panel. Ms. Takemoto is adjunct faculty in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University where she is completing her dissertation for a PhD in Education. She has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from San Jose State University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Family Centered Early Intervention Services from George Mason University.
