Through a subcontract with Carter Consulting, Inc., New Editions provides Section 508 technical support to HHS’s Office of the Secretary and CDC staff. Our support includes Help Desk operations, Section 508 Compliance Assessments, Technical Assistance and document remediation. New Editions staff responds to Section 508 queries related to applicable provisions, acquisition language, accessible application development and process, and VPATs.
Technical Assistance and Training
New Editions provides Section 508 support to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to develop a remediation strategy to achieve Section 508 compliance. This includes assessing the current environment and recommending appropriate tools to help NASS implement compliance auditing and remediation. In addition, we are developing processes for continuous monitoring and Section 508 audits in the software development lifecycle. New Editions is also providing training for NASS staff members on Section 508 standards the use of assessment tools.
The vast majority of the approximately 10,000 individuals returning to the community from prison each week lack the education and skills for even entry-level employment. Research from the Department of Justice indicates a link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime. Those re-entering the community after incarceration face a system of silos between corrections, education and the workforce system. This contract seeks to support reentry education models based on the best available evidence and theory and building on Department work in this area.
Money Follows the Person (MFP) Demonstration projects across the country say that the biggest obstacle to successful transition is the lack of affordable, accessible housing. When someone chooses to use self determination to return home to a tiny community out in the middle of nowhere, the problem can seem exponentially more difficult. Coupled with lack of housing, there is typically a lack of formal services and limited (if any) public transportation.

The module was developed to assist individuals with understanding their responsibility and role in reviewing materials submitted by grantees of NIDILRR's various grants.
