Social Security Administration Programs

Table 66: In December 2007, of the 7,358,695 individuals that received federally administered payments from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, 1,204,382 were eligible based on being 65 years or older, 71,717 were eligible based on blindness, and 6,082,596 were eligible based on disability.

Table 67: In December 2007, of the 1,120,765 individuals under age 18 that received federally administered payments from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, 6,164 were eligible based on blindness, and 1,113,756 were eligible based on disability.

Table 68: In December 2007, of the 7,358,695 individuals that received federally administered payments from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, 1,120,766 were under age 18, 4,221,510 were ages 18-64, and 2,016,419 were ages 65 and older.

Table 69: In December 2007, of the 8,118,382 individuals were beneficiaries under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, 7,098,723 were disabled workers, 794,677 were disabled adult children, and 224,982 were disabled widow(er)s.

Table 70: In December 2007, of the 10,217,512 individuals ages 18-64 receiving SSI and/or SSDI, 6,937,804 were SSDI disabled workers only, 4,221,511 SSI recipients only, and 941,803 were both SSDI disabled workers and SSI recipients (i.e., concurrent beneficiaries). (See Table 85 for the number of monthly SSDI applications over time.)
