Management of Disability Resource Center (DRC) for Department of Transporation (DOT)

New Editions assists in the development and operation of DOT's DRC. DRC ensures that DOT employees in any location can fully participate in all aspects of the Department’s work, programs and services. Our team, located on site at DOT, developed the systems and procedures for operation, establishing three workstations to demonstrate adaptive equipment. We also provide job needs assessments for accommodations and recommend technology acquisition for employees.

Development of National Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Assistance Center (NTAC) for the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA)

New Editions operates the NTAC which serves to coordinate activities and communications among RSA’s Technical Assistance Network members, promotes collaborative activities, identifies experts and resources and provides analysis and evaluation of program data. RSA’s Technical Assistance Network provides training, technical assistance and continuing education to improve the performance of State Vocational Rehabilitation programs.

Management of Employer Collaboration with Public Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies for the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA)

New Editions conceived and is implementing a new approach to employer outreach to improve employer collaboration with public vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies. New Editions designs updated educational materials for employers about recruiting, hiring, retaining and promoting individuals with disabilities. We convene forums for employers and VR counselors to provide first hand information on employment needs in targeted high-growth industries including: banking/finance, service/hospitality, science/technology and healthcare.

Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Business Roundtables

The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) provides guidance and support to the state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies that are charged with providing job training and placement, as well as on-the-job supports to aid individuals with disabilities in finding and retaining employment. State VR agencies can be most successful when they understand labor force trends and can look ahead at the projected soft and hard skills employers need to train and prepare candidates for the jobs of the future.

Material Development and Communications Support for Health Information Technology

New Editions, along with our partners, provides material development and communications support for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), including the development of outreach and education materials, such as infographics and web-based content, exhibit support and template design to improve the cohesiveness and effectiveness of stakeholder outreach activities.

Planning, Evaluation and Analysis for Formative Research to Inform the Development of Preventive Services Tools Based on Recommendations for Clinicians and Consumers

New Editions, with our subcontractor JBS International, conducted a formative qualitative study to ascertain how primary care clinicians and patients conceptualize and communicate about preventive services. We used focus groups and simulated clinical scenarios to gain insight into the shared decision-making process. This knowledge will be used to guide the development and improvement of print and electronic tools that prompt joint decision-making by clinicians and patients regarding United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendations.

Section 508 Technical Support for Health and Human Services (HHS)

New Editions provides training and technical assistance on Section 508 and the Secretary’s Section 508 Implementation Policy to designated individuals in the HHS agency and the Office of the Secretary. Section 508 requires electronic and information technology (EIT) procured, developed, maintained or used to be accessible to its employees and customers with disabilities. New Editions staff members work directly with Section 508 Officials and Coordinators at each agency to ensure their understanding of the legal, technical, and policy framework of Section 508 at HHS.

HHS/CDC Section 508 Support

Through a subcontract with Carter Consulting, Inc., New Editions provides Section 508 technical support to HHS’s Office of the Secretary and CDC staff. Our support includes Help Desk operations, Section 508 Compliance Assessments, Technical Assistance and document remediation. New Editions staff responds to Section 508 queries related to applicable provisions, acquisition language, accessible application development and process, and VPATs.

Analysis of Federal Activities Related to the Medical Home Model for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)

New Editions supports the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) New Freedom Initiative (NFI) Working Group, led by the HHS Office on Disability (OD). HRSA is working through the New Freedom Initiative Working Group on a project to analyze and promote the Medical Home model for children with special health care needs and all individuals with disabilities. New Editions is assisting by providing conference management, note taking and administrative support for the Working Group.

Support of Core Public Health Functions of Disability for the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilites (NCBDDD)

New Editions supports the ability of states, territories and localities in their efforts to be inclusive of people with disabilities when planning, delivering and evaluating public health programs. Specifically, New Editions supports an exciting effort by NCBDDD to develop educational resources for public health disability staff, draft models and measures for state-based disability public health programs, assess current and future needs of disability staff and highlight the current capacity and functioning of public health disability programs.

Technical and Logistics Support for Adults with Chronic Health Care Needs Expert Panel

New Editions provides technical and logistical support for a national expert panel composed to assist the NIH Rehabilitation Medicine Department develop a holistic definition of adults with chronic health care needs that can be used in national surveys and clinical settings.

Technical and Collaborative Assistance for Housing Capacity Building Initiative for Community Living Project

Funded under Medicaid’s Money Follows the Person (MFP) program, New Editions contract - Housing Capacity Building Initiative for Community Living Project - was announced in June 2010 by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sebelius. The Secretary lauded the project’s vision to assist older adults and those with chronic conditions to find appropriate housing to live more independent lives.

Implementation Support for the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Improve the Health and Wellness of Persons with Disabilities Strategic Plan

New Editions provides logistics and management support to assist the OD in implementing the Call to Action Strategic Plan. We plan and conduct important events: a conference with major health care provider organizations to identify best practices in disability awareness training for physicians and nurses and a forum with employers to identify best practices in providing access to health care services for employees with disabilities. New Editions also develops publications for employers and employees to support improved health care access in the workplace.

DHS Trusted Tester Training

New Editions supports the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Accessible Systems & Technology’s (OAST) Trusted Tester Certification program. The program increases the capability and capacity of the DHS workforce and other federal agencies to support the Federal government’s mission to comply with Section 508. Under the contract, our Senior Section 508 Trusted Testers deliver rigorous, instructor-led courses on a formalized website and applications testing methodology, known as DHS Section 508 Compliance Test Process for Applications, to section 508 testers.

Section 508 Support for the US Coast Guard

New Editions provides Section 508 support to the US Coast Guard web team (CG633) to assess sites for Section 508 compliance. Information Communication Technology (ICT) products are vital to Coast Guard operations’ and the Coast Guard is dependent on the Internet to communicate and distribute critical information. We assess the Coast Guard's public facing websites for accessibility and assist with remediation of sites that are not compliant. We also assess documents for accessibility and provide remediation assistance for non-accessible documents.

Beneficiary Access and Support Services for the Social Security Administration's (SSA) Ticket to Work Program

New Editions provides technical and logistical services to support Social Security’s Ticket Program Beneficiary Access and Support Services Work Incentive Seminar Event (WISE) webinars via a subcontract to Booz Allen Hamilton. WISE webinars are online events held for beneficiaries to learn about the Ticket to Work Program and available Work Incentives through accessible learning opportunities. In addition to logistical services to support the webinars, including researching presenters and topics, New Editions also plays a role in content development and promotion.

Program Management of the Disaster Reservist Recruitment Career Hub and Sourcing and Advertising Initiative

Through a subcontract with Monster Government Solutions, New Editions provided program management for the development of a career site and advertising campaign to attract and manage candidates applying for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) disaster reservist positions.

New Options New Mexico

New Editions provided program management, through a subcontract through Monster Government Solutions, for New Options New Mexico – a pilot program to increase the aptitudes, employability and employment rate of young people in New Mexico. Innovate+Educate received a multi-million dollar grant from the W.K Kellogg Foundation to unite local industry, nonprofits and community colleges together in a cyber-based pilot initiative to help young people in New Mexico find employment and advance their careers.

Through a subcontract with Monster Government Solutions, New Editions provides program management for the development of eOhioMeansJobs (eOMJ) which is geared towards connecting employers and job candidates with one another, as well as promoting Ohio One-Stop programs and supports to Ohio-based companies and citizens.

USDA NASS Section 508 Support

New Editions provides Section 508 support to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to develop a remediation strategy to achieve Section 508 compliance. This includes assessing the current environment and recommending appropriate tools to help NASS implement compliance auditing and remediation. In addition, we are developing processes for continuous monitoring and Section 508 audits in the software development lifecycle. New Editions is also providing training for NASS staff members on Section 508 standards the use of assessment tools.
