2021 New Editions Accomplishments

New Editions Accomplishments

Giving Back to Create a Better Workplace and Community for Employees

  • Continued complete telework due to COVID-19. In order to keep employees and their families safe, New Editions has been working remotely all of 2021 with no plan to go back to the office until all employees, especially those with children under five, feel safe.
  • Named a Washington Post Top Workplace. In a survey conducted in partnership with survey firm WorkplaceDynamics, The Washington Post asked people about their employers to identify the highest ranked organizations in the region. New Editions was among the government contractors, law firms, nonprofits, schools, and businesses from DC’s growing service sector that were recognized by their employees for being a Top Workplace.
  • Earned the National Organization on Disability (NOD) Leading Disability Employer Seal. NOD’s Leading Disability Employer Seal is a public, annual recognition designed to applaud those organizations that are leading the way in disability hiring and encourage additional companies to tap into the many benefits of hiring talent with disabilities, including high rates of productivity and dedication, and greater employee engagement across the workforce.
  • Continued our inclusive environment that encourages work-life balance. More than 20% of our employees self-identify as having a disability. About 30% are workers over the age of 55. Another 30% are Millennials. We have staff at all stages of life—some just starting out, some with young children, some juggling the needs of aging parents and all those in between. We strive to accommodate them all.
  • Ensured accessibility is baked into all of New Edition’s products and deliverables. New Editions continues to ensure all staff members are aware of and up to date on accessibility best practices through company-wide accessibility workshops, covering topics such as Introduction to Accessible Data Visualization, How to Hold Accessible Virtual Meetings, Adding Captions to Videos, Accessibility Laws that Apply to Virtual and Physical Meetings, and Creating Accessible PowerPoint Templates.
  • Gave back to our community. New Editions and our employees donated time and money to admirable causes. Many of our staff members served on boards of worthy organizations. We donated money in the name of our employee of the year and those named Outstanding Contributors, and we supported local charities. Local kids went back to school with backpacks filled with school supplies; homeless families were supported at Christmas; and community organizations were supported through contributions and sponsorships for Fun Runs, book drives, and other events. In 2021, we began sponsoring a refugee family from Afghanistan.
  • Support Disability Organizations. New Editions’ President and many employees served on Boards of Disability Organizations, such as the U.S. International Council on Disability (USICD). We made monetary donations to the ARC, USICD, the Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD), American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), Disability:IN, and many local disability groups.
