Policy and Program Administration for Career and Technical Education (CTE)
New Editions provides Technical Assistance (TA) services to state, Tribal, and local leaders to strengthen career and technical education (CTE) and provide opportunities to identify and share national Best Practices. In order to accomplish this critical goal, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) has identified four key objectives for the project: 1) providing TA to states to drive the expansion of high-quality secondary and postsecondary CTE aligned to the Perkins priority areas; 2) deploying subject matter expertise to develop high-quality publications and resources to guide policy and practice; 3) providing comprehensive logistical support for annual convenings, site visits, and study tours; and 4) ensuring that project activities and deliverables represent student perspectives, which will be elicited through the inclusion of high school CTE students who are meaningfully engaged in the project as work-based learning participants.
The overarching strategy, TA plans, and anticipated materials are designed to be responsive to these objectives and areas of need identified by OCTAE. New Editions and its partner, Jobs for the Future (JFF), provide engaging, human-centered, high-impact TA to states, informed by JFF’s deep subject matter expertise and knowledge of best practices in CTE, Perkins V legislation, pathways, and OCTAE’s Unlocking Career Success and Career-Connected High School initiatives The team’s detailed TA plan includes:
- National and individual TA to state and Tribal leaders;
- Development of user-friendly tools and resources focused on CTE policy and practice;
- An annual national convening offered in a hybrid format;
- Engaging quarterly site visits and study tours; and
- Access to a network of highly qualified subject matter experts.
